SHOW REVIEW: Vans Warped Tour 2012

Van’s Warped Tour 2012

July 07, 2012
First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre
Tinley Park, IL

The Van’s Warped Tour made its annual summer pilgrimage to the Chicago land area Saturday, 07/07/12. The tour is celebrating its 18th year this summer, and it shows no signs of stopping or slowing down anytime soon. The tour is world renowned and has showcased bands of all calibers and genres from around the world ranging from underground stars, to mainstream national bands, and legendary veteran punk and hardcore acts to satisfy all breeds of fans. There is so much to see and do at the tour that it can be extremely overwhelming for first time visitors and very easy to miss some of your favorite acts due to a schedule conflict or even just arriving later in the day at the tour. Regardless, a great time is seemingly had by everyone in attendance of all ages. This year’s tour provided 10 stages showcasing 100+ performances in roughly nine hours; a hectic lineup indeed. Add in the 100 or so degree temperature throughout the majority of the day, and the fact that my partner slammed her foot in a car door and I tore muscles in my lower back the 48 hours leading up to the tour, definitely made for a long brutal day. Nonetheless, we carried on to the show along with thousands of other attendees. We quickly learned that the venue staff is completely useless in regards to giving any useful information as to where you can find the tent to obtain your press credentials. Instead, we were sent around the outer perimeter of the venue multiple times and fed the same lines of nonsense every time, and then we were redirected somewhere else. Frustrating is an understatement when taking into account the extreme heat and absurd amount of walking due to the staff being poorly trained and uneducated about their procedures until finally, one competent employee spoke with a manager, via phone, and actually directed us to where we needed to be. Which by the way, was not too far from us and we had already walked past the general area at least twice, but in my opinion they hid it well!
