ALBUM REVIEW: Upon A Burning Body | The World Is My Enemy Now

Written By: Michael and Terri Gonzales

With all of the modern and digital conveniences ever so present in life today, most people seldom ever listen to an album from start to finish as the artists had intended them to be heard. Instead, for most it is typically customized playlists of multiple artists and genres. People tend to forget how a finely crafted and structured album has the ability to flow harmoniously from beginning to end, uninterrupted. An album that truly needs to be heard from start to finish dropped last Tuesday, August 12, 2014. The San Antonio, Texas metal natives Upon A Burning Body released their third studio album, “The World Is My Enemy Now” on Sumerian Records. The album hits hard from the start and finishes just as strong without lagging at any point. Upon A Burning Body bring a relentless energy and passion throughout “The World Is My Enemy Now“. From the moment the album begins with “Red Razor Wrists” kicking in, lead vocalist Danny Leal’s fierce vocals have an intensity all their own that is beautifully harmonized with the crunching rhythms his bandmates provide. As the tracks progress throughout “The World Is My Enemy Now” a natural progression is heard as each song seemingly picks up where the other left off.

Upon A Burning Body deliver a heavy sound with plenty of audible influences such as Slipknot, Machine Head, and Trivium all being easily heard. Infused with those influences there is also the heavy and southern Pantera style crunch that is present throughout the album’s duration. With a wide array of heavy influences Upon A Burning Body maintain their own unique sound and the “The World Is My Enemy Now” portrays that beautifully. There is a wide array of heavy hooks and catchy verses that will have even the most stubborn listener banging their head. The album also features guest vocal appearances by Matt Heafy of Trivium on “Blood, Sweat, and Tears“, and Tyler TellieSmith of The Word Alive on “I’ve Earned My Time“.

Upon A Burning Body just recently wrapped up a summer tour on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. Their live performance is fantastic and much like “The World Is My Enemy Now” it is nonstop from start to finish. Upon A Burning Body just announced today that they will be supporting Whitechapel on the “Our Endless War Tour” that is set to kick off on October 10 in Louisville, Kentucky and finish things up on November 14, in Norfolk, Virginia. Along the way Upon A Burning Body can also be seen performing at Slipknot’s Knotfest 2014” in San Bernardino, California on October 25 and 26 along with a plethora of other metal bands. Once Whitechapel’sOur Endless War Tour” wraps up Upon A Burning Body will be jetting off to England for a slew of dates in November heading into December. Needless to say Upon A Burning Body are on a mission to deliver their music to as many fans as possible and they are not wasting any time. Be sure to pick up “The World Is My Enemy Now” on Sumerian Records, and listen to it from the beginning to the end. The album hits hard and it is without a doubt one of the best records of 2014. Also be sure to catch Upon A Burning Body’s live performance whenever possible as it will not disappoint.
