“There Are Levels To This S***”
RDGLDGRN
Debuts Video For “Opera” (feat. Method Man)
At NYLON MAGAZINE
Touring the US in February and March
“Human beings in this country are still being treated as if they were aliens,” says Green of alternative hip-hop trio RDGLDGRN (pronounced ‘red gold green’) to NYLON MAGAZINE, in reference to not only his new video and single “OPERA”, but also, in a larger sense, the current political and social climate of the U.S. Premiering today on NYLON, the provocative video (which features guest rapper METHOD MAN) captures the band at its most amped-up musically and politically, portraying the physical and metaphorical idea of this unnatural fear of “the other.”
“There’s a saying that we learned from protesters in Germany against the government and the country’s treatment of the Syrian refugees, it is that ‘NO HUMAN CAN BE ILLEGAL.’ That idea inspired this video,” he explains. “The aggression of the music and accent mirrors the way you view the speaker all the way from the beginning of the track to when it’s finally deconstructed at the end. So, basically, there are LEVELS TO THIS SHIT.”
A lot can be said about the band’s unique melting pot of sounds, which can range from Grime to Brazilian Polyrhythms to the more alternative side of Hip-Hop, but what truly sets RDGLDGRN apart from other bands is their work ethic and desire to set the bar higher than anyone else. Hustling enough to be able to share stages with the likes of Lauryn Hill, Outkast, Foo Fighters to DeadPrez and The Dirty Heads, the multi-cultural band have previously collaborated with legends like Dave Grohl (who provided drums on their debut album) and Grammy-winning producer Pharrell Williams, all the while hopping on festivals like Hang Out, Afropunk, Trillectro and The Great Escape.
This new LP (title TBA), being released on the band’s Deuce Day World imprint, is just another step in their inevitable evolution and proof they are more than ready for any level. You can pre-order the LP via Pledge and catch them on tour with The Expendables with stops at Winter Rock Reggae, California Roots, and 420 Eve On The Rocks.
